I'm always searching for a new steak place that's comparable to my favorite places and Steak 48 got awesome reviews on Google, so I said f@#! it, let's try. I liked that the restaurant was located in a shopping center and there was plenty of parking. They do have valet parking and I suppose for status sake, you can opt for that. The valet and entrance had a very LA-esque feel which added to the whole "status" vibe. The restaurant felt like an old school classic steak joint with its decor and dim lighting; one that your rich grandfather (not mine) would go to. The open kitchen was the touch of modernity along with the fancy bidet. The staff were attentive and there seemed to be someone for every aspect/part of your dining. The things we ordered: Bread appetizer (complimentary) - tasted like biscuits, like the ones from a can. It was buttery and sweet. My daughter usually devours the bread, but not this time. It's not something you'd miss. Shrimp cocktail appetizer - perfectly cooked and large! The dipping sauces just completed the dish. I liked the extra side of horseradish. Yellowtail hamachi appetizer - the fish was fresh and light. The sauce added flavor to the fish, but the crispy shallots overpowered it. The shallots provided the textural difference but less of it would have been better. Petit filet with crab cake - the steak was cooked well. The crab cake had a lot of crab, but it ate a little dry and a little bland. Salted fries - served in a ceramic McDonald style fry box and my daughter thought it was the cutest. The fries were delicious. Perfectly salted. Alaskan king crab and rock shrimp mac n' cheese - creamy, cheesy, well seasoned and had a generous amount of seafood. Triple layer key lime pie - definitely a shareable dessert. Overall the flavor was good, but I thought the crust was a little too thick and the whipped cream could have used a little more sweetness. The lime "caviar" was pretty, but I didn't think it added much to the dish. Strawberry gelato - full of strawberry flavor and creamy. Absolutely flawless. The French old fashioned - one of the best I've had. Flavors were balanced. Overall, dinner was good, but compared to other places, far too overpriced and not everything was on point. We paid nearly $600 (with tip). Toward the end of our meal, the manager offered to buy us a drink and asked us to move tables because they "overbooked reservations." Sounds like a restaurant problem and not a patron problem. Initially, we tried to understand, but it definitely left us a bad impression, especially for what we just paid. We might try them again, but they wouldn't be at the top of our list.

We decided, for my birthday (which this year ran from June 12th - June 20th with a multitude of events for my 70th Birthday) to head over to Steak 48 to do a Restaurant Review. They still gave us one of the six glass in booths they have towards the back. Steak 48, Del Mar Heights gets so many points for having these booths. Our waiter has an assistant, who checks in to make sure everything is good, regularly. Now that's style. So I'm still not at the food yet because everything up to the food is ah-mazing, including the Raw Bar with fresh oysters shrimp etc. that you walk by to get to the table. The open kitchen which is really big, is quite the show stopper too. OK. Food. We start with appetizers .... so that's Crispy Shrimp and Chicken Fried Lobster Tails. Simone is from Germany and doesn't quite get the lingo of Chicken Fried anything. She's surprised by my explanation. It's fun to eat with people from other countries. The waiter says the Crispy Shrimp is a signature dish so we order the Shrimp and the Chicken Fried Lobster Tails. Chicken Fried Tails are good. And I must say it is crunchy outside, but soft and easy to eat, inside. While I had heard from a friend that I should go to Steak 48 just for steaks, that their appetizers are just ok, I disagree. And actually by ordering the Crispy Shrimp with the Lobster Tails, it's a nice trip into spicy and then crunchy profiles, in the seafood world. We order the bone in 22 ounce Ribeye with sides such as Chef Daniels Potatoes au Gratin, a fully stuffed baked potato and the Corn Crème Brûlée. Sheri, our resident meat eater just loves the steak. I take a couple of bites because normally I don't eat beef and I must say it's everything you want a steak to be. As for the side dishes mentioned: One side dish is better than the next. Everything is done right! Simone orders the Hassleback Potato after I explain exactly what that is. Hassleback? It's a baked potato, (restaurants usually use Yukons, but these are so big they have to be baby russets, cut almost through in strips, like the picture. The way you can prevent it from cutting all the way through is: place chopsticks on either side and you will hit the chopstick before cutting all the way through to the bottom. You baste it (with butter or butter and olive oil, do you season on the stove top with thyme and a couple cloves of garlic). Potatoes cook generally for an hour, so half way thru baste it again. I can do that at home with anything you're cooking and add a really special touch to the meal. Everyone from my group that has been to other events with me says Steak 48 is great, but bring a thick wallet. Yes. It really is, with an inexpensive ($100) bottle of wine shared) still $200 a person plus tax and tip. Steak 48 does a great job at adding a special touch to everything they serve. We eat with our eyes, so the presentation is exceptional. We smell what we're going to eat. Pretty exceptional. And then, we savor the flavor. Well done Steak 48!  I don't mean order steak well done. Go medium rare on the meat! lol Best, Chef Marian San Diego Foodies Carlsbad Foodies Meetup.com

This is one of the two best steak places in San Diego County. I do not want to dilute this review so I will keep the other out of it, but Steak 48 is exceptional. Truly. I had dinner there last Sunday, and as usual, EVERYTHING, was perfect. From valet, to reception, to the first appetizer and finally desert, perfection. You will not be disappointed when dining at Steak 48. Veronica was our server and she excelled as all of the staff does. It is simply a perfect place for fine dining or a romantic diner. Recommended with no qualifications. Go. Eat. Enjoy!

We loved our experience at Steak 48. We went with another couple who has gone a few weeks prior. They told us our recommendations and we went with the flow in terms of what we felt like for the evening. We wanted to bring our wine, but when we called: There is a corkage fee of $85 and the wine cannot be listed on their (extensive) wine list. You are better off purchasing a bottle from the restaurant. We were immediately seated in a private dining table (sits 4) next to the chef's kitchen. Our table also had a great view of the dessert's kitchen as well. We were close to the all-gender bathrooms (2 separate bathrooms), which were a plus! It was fun sitting at these tables because they are semi-private and you get to see what's going on in the kitchen! There are only 6 booths (I believe), so try to request for a unique experience. I ordered a glass of Chandon to start. The table ordered their drinks of choice. We were provided warm bread that had a sweet taste (honey) and butter to start. We ordered appetizers to share: chicken fried lobster tails, braised pork belly, crab legs, and fresh oysters. For dinner, we ordered the bone-in ribeye and new york strip, with sides crispy hasselback potatoes, corn creme brulee, and a bottle of Cab for the table. For dessert, we ordered the triple layer key lime pie, triple chocolate bombe, and beignets (off menu item). Everything we ordered was delicious. The service, the ambiance, the food, the drinks were all amazing. This is a very high class restaurant that costs a pretty penny! For our party of 4, it was close to $900. Save for a special occasion, because it's worth a visit.

I hope I can describe how special I felt coming here for my birthday dinner! It was DELIGHTFUL and DELICIOUS. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by name (ok bc we had reservations and my husband mentioned it was my birthday in the res) and given a birthday card handwritten by the manager of the restaurant. From there we were escorted to our table with rose petals sprinkled on top. Their wine selection is large, and I'm not a wine drinker but what we ordered so crisp and light. Ok the appetizer selection was abundant and I couldn't decide on just one thing to try- so we made a pact then on that we MUST come back. I can go on and on about how great each course was, how deliciously cooked the steaks were, and how beautifully sweet the desserts tasted. And, to top it off- we got chocolate chip cookies along with the check. $$ well spent for sure ;)

I came here at 430p Saturday for early dinner and everything was very smooth! There are plenty of self parking lot and we were seated right away. I had my newborn and toddler with me and the restaurant called me beforehand make sure I had enough space for stroller and was very accommodating to my request. Very nice personal touch The restaurant is super nice and big. My son really liked the decoration lol I didn't get to take much of the pictures but for appetizers we ordered Yellow tail hamachi, pricey and small but it was tasty Crispy shrimp, this was disappointing... it was way too salty for my taste but the manager came out and apologized for the taste. Umph he didn't have to do that haha but thanks anyway Oh can't forget about their amazing complimentary house bread. It was so warm and delicious! I love how outside has little crispness and inside is moist and warm. I usually don't eat house bread but I ate most of it I ordered roasted beet salad and it was pretty tasty For entrees, we ordered two rib eyes and scallop. Rib eye was pretty good but, my son ate most of whole steak by himself so I guess he approved and good Scallop was pretty good too For sides we ordered mashed potatoes, mushroom and crispy Brussels sprouts.... I wasn't super impressed with it. I feel like mashed potatoes were not really from mashed potatoes but from packaging... Also mushroom was just ok The food were just ok but not too bad but service was very very goooooddd.
